“#StopAsianHate” Solidarity Rally with AAPI Communities On March 24, 2021, in scattered drizzles, thousands of residents from AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islanders) communities gathered at the lakefront pavilion of the town center to commemorate the 8 victims, among them 6 Asian Americans, who were slaughtered in the spas in Atlanta a week ago. In solidarity they wanted their voice to be heard, loud and clear that the hate crimes against Asian Americans cannot be tolerated and those who committed those evil acts are to be condemned and held accountable. The rally is a response to the recent surge in hate crimes targeting Asian Americans across the country. According to one national survey, the crime rate against Asian Americans increased by 146% in 2020. The mass shooting in Atlanta targeting Asian American owned businesses has evoked numerous protests in many cities from coast to coast. For more details, please click: stopasianhate_solidarity_rally_with_aapi_communities.pdf The China National Acrobatic Troupe Coming to Howard County Columbia, MD - The Howard County Chinese Cultural Center proudly presents a spectacular show Autumn Night Exuberance: Acrobatics, Dance and Music to celebrate the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival on September 22, 2017. This world class performance features China's top acrobatic group, the China National Acrobatic Troupe, who will showcase four traditional Chinese acrobatic programs including Diabolo, Plate Spinning, Nine Ball King and Jujitsu. Renowned Chinese American artists and groups from Washington DC area and Howard County will perform signature pieces at the Mid-Autumn celebration. Among them, beloved singers, mezzo-soprano He Lingling and bass-baritone Li Chunfeng will perform popular Chinese and foreign songs. The well-known Washington Chinese Traditional Orchestra will also present at the show. Featured Artists “Diabolo” by China Acrobatics The China National Acrobatic Troupe was established in 1950 and became the first acrobatic troupe on the national level after the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. For more than 60 years after its establishment, the troupe has served as a cultural envoy and staged performances in over 80 countries. The troupe has won 18 golden medals at various international competitions and numerous national medals. The Diabolo program, created by He Xiaobin and Zhang Ruijing, has won numerous international awards, including the 26th French" Tomorrow "International Acrobatics Festival. Nine Ball King, juggling with nine balls at the same time, has also won national and international awards. Jujitsu is a traditional acrobatic program that shows the flexibility "beyond the limits of the human body". The gold medal winning program Plate Spinning shows highly impressive skills and coordination.  “Jujitsu” by China Acrobatics  “Plate Spinning” by China Acrobatics Washington Chinese Traditional Orchestra (WCTO), established in 1999, consists of local professional musicians and dedicated amateur players. Its goal is to preserve and develop both ancient and modern Chinese music and introduce them to American society. The orchestra has brought audiences to their feet at the most prestigious venues around Washington DC and East coast, including Kennedy Performing Art Center in D.C., Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, Strathmore Music Center in Bethesda MD. The orchestra also participated frequently local cultural festivals such as Asian-Pacific American Heritage Festival, Chinese Spring Festival and Asian American Chamber Music Festival, which had received favorable reviews, such as “A superb performance” from the Washington Post. The orchestra has also performed at NPR (National Public Radio) headquarter in DC for a special recording session.  The Washington Chinese Traditional Orchestra  Bass-Baritone ChunFeng Li is a remarkably gifted bass with a voice of great range and power. He has performed as an operatic soloist on three continents. Recently he successfully made his debut with the Martina Arroyo Foundation Orchestra in the fully staged performance of La Bohème conducted by Willie Anthony Waters. He has also worked with the St. Petersburg Opera in Die Entführung aus dem Serail conducted by Mark Sforzini. While in the Martina Arroyo Foundation Young Artist Program, he was invited to perform the role of Sulpice from Donizetti's La Fille du Régiment conducted by Imre Pallo, where he had the opportunity to be the only Chinese student of Richard Bonynge and received high praise from the Maestro. Previously he had sung the roles of Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro and Masetto in Don Giovanni in concert settings in Italy and France. He also sang the role of Banco in Verdi’s Macbeth with the Orvieto Symphony in Italy. Featured in a showcase performance, he also made his Carnegie Hall debut in the same role . Mr. Li received acclaim equally at home on the concert stage. He has sung the role of Bartolo of Le nozze di Figaro at the National Grand Theater of China and sang as Mephistopheles for the first time in Faust at the Shanghai Opera Theater.  Mezzo-soprano Lingling H, Peng received her Graduate Performance Diploma in voice from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, and a Master of Music degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has been singing with Washington National Opera since 2005, and a member of National Association of Teachers of Singing and American Guild of Musical Artist. Lingling has won numerous awards and competitions in the United States and abroad, performed concerts and recitals worldwide including China, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and the United States.
